Inaccessible Boot Device 0x0000007B

We get countless calls regarding hard drives that just simply no longer boot. The drive may not be making any unusual noises, and it may sound as though it is working perfectly, even being recognized properly in the BIOS. While mechanical issues can certainly be a cause for this error to come up, there are also less serious possibilities such as a boot sector virus. At the time of this writing, Microsoft does not provide software that can detect and remove viruses, so it would be necessary to utilize a third party virus detection and removal program.

Problems within the Windows Registry can also cause this particular error. In particular if the device driver associated with your drive controller is corrupted, it can make the drive inaccessible. A major parts swap, such as a motherboard exchange, can also cause this type of problem, which then prevents the hard drive from booting properly.

It is important to note that many tech support representatives may be inclined to have you just format and perform a fresh install of your Operating System in order to resolve this problem. They may also recommend you run your System Recovery disk. However, if the data contained on the drive is of any value, it is vitally important that you avoid following their advise at all costs. While we are able to recover data from formatted drives, it is impossible to know if the actual data you are needing will be recoverable or not. The more you use your drive after the format and reinstall, the less likely it becomes that your data will be recoverable.

If you have an Inaccessible Boot Device error, more than likely the data can be recovered. It really just depends on what has been done to the drive since the error first manifested itself. In more serious situations such as a physical hard drive failure, it really depends on the condition of the platters. The platters are the area of the drive that actually store the data, and if they are scored, the data will be unrecoverable. The fact is, if the data is valueable, you need to call a professional. The professionals at ACS Data Recovery are able to recover your data without making the situation worse. Call us today at 1-800-717-8974.
